Commitment… It’s a Choice

IMG_4765“Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions and the actions, which speak louder than the words. It is making the time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of, the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism.”

This quote is painted on the wall immediately upon entering my organization’s training facility. The first thing your eyes catch when you walk into the building is a mural of the beautiful PNC Park in Pittsburgh with the most illuminating definition of commitment attached to the left.

Many reading this likely know my story and those who do not will hear about it one day, but for several years now I have consistently made it a point to study the world’s most successful people. I have long been intrigued by what makes the world’s brightest people break through and reach immeasurable heights.

Napoleon Hill, one of the pioneers of the self-help genre and author of the 1928 multi-volume work titled The Law of Success; a work in which he interviews several successful world leaders like Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford says “strength and growth comes only from a continuous effort and struggle.” Hill’s definition varies from immediate gratification. His definition echoes the descriptive quote of commitment. In 2018 our modern society has often been coined a “microwave” culture, we want something immediately and we want it now. Quick fixes, get rich schemes and trendy workout plans have taken us by storm.

Commitment is the primary trait of success. No shortcut exists. A person with a growth mindset is able to press through and complete something when they do not wish to. It is one of the greatest separators. There’s a conscious choice to make each morning when we lift our heads from the pillow; we have the choice to make a commitment to “Do More Gooder”.

Nico Moyer founded Do More Gooder with the commitment to inspire and empower people to change the world through service, education, and support. It is with great honor to say I am excited to join him in this journey and commitment to providing love and growth to all. Living a life full of commitment is a choice to be made, it is one I strive and pray to live every single day.

Nico is someone who humbly reminds me daily a life lived with commitment is far more rewarding than a life lived for myself and immediate gratification. His commitment to love others is noticeable and one of my primary goals in life is to surround myself with people who have far superior hearts than I have.

What is something you can commit to today to provide value in the world that you have been putting off? What is something you can spend 15-30 minutes a day for the next week doing? Is it waking up a little bit earlier each morning to create time to work out, read or pray? Think of all the skills or tasks you have wanted to complete or learn. The new language you wanted to study? The book you wanted to read? Commitment is the power to accept the challenges and add value to your life. Turn the TV off and make a commitment to growing today!
